A Professional Touch: Leave Plumbing Issues Up To The Pros

A clogged toilet can ruin anyone's day and is often a problematic situation to deal with on one's own. When attempts to unclog a backed-up toilet become fruitless, it's simply time to call for professional help. Plumbers are highly-trained professionals who offer toilet backup services and will work to not only get things flushing again but also to prevent further damage. Here are just a few factors to consider when calling in a professional plumber and what to expect once the work begins.

Why Go With The Pros

Though it may be tempting for homeowners to unclog a toilet on their own, calling in a professional is simply the smartest decision to make. Only professional plumbers will have the right equipment and expertise to successfully unclog a toilet without damaging the toilet or pipes in the process. Using a tool such as an auger, for instance, can easily become lodged in the pipes by those who are unfamiliar with how to properly use it. Those who attempt repairs on their own also risk the possibility of damaging the pipes, parts of the toilet, or flooring. Damage to any of these areas will only add to the headache of dealing with a clogged toilet, so it is always best to call in the pros.

Minor Clogs

When dealing with a backed-up toilet, minor clogs are the easiest to remedy and are usually a quick fix. Minor clogs can be caused by anything from excess toilet paper or waste to small items that have been flushed down the toilet. Plumbers will most likely attempt to use a flange plunger to dislodge the blockage using water pressure. If this does not work, an auger may be used to snake into the toilet to push the blockage into the mainline. This tool has the ability to reach into the U-bend of toilets and is a highly effective means of remedying clogged toilets. As a note, augers may leave behind scuff marks on the toilet bowl, which can be easily buffed away using a special pumice stone found in most hardware stores.

Major Clogs

If plunging and utilizing an auger does not remedy the blockage, the toilet itself will need to be removed. Again, this is best done by a professional as toilets can easily break under pressure. The plumber will ensure the toilet is first drained of water and then removed safely to inspect the problem. Once the toilet is removed, any object blocking the internal structure of the toilet may easily be extracted, once again allowing for a properly flushing system. For blockages that find their way into the mainline of a home's plumbing, a small camera may be snaked into the pipes to locate the source of the blockage. Once the source of the blockage is identified, plumbers will work to remove the problem efficiently while also guaranteeing the plumbing system is not compromised in any way.
